THANKSGIVING 2008

This year we celebrated Thanksgiving with my family on Wednesday night and Yin's family on Thanksgiving Day. It turned out nice because we were able to spend lots of time with both families and we weren't eating two dinners in one day! At the first dinner, we had a traditional meal with lots of yummy pies for dessert. After we said the prayer, Ava started crying because she wanted to say it too. So everyone stopped and we let Ava say a second prayer. We were in charge of Thanksgiving this year for Yin's family. We had to schedule, make assignments, and come up with activities. Before dinner, we had an activity for the kids making little pine cone turkeys. Then, we set up the tables with a turkey at each plate. Each turkey was eating corn kernels. After everyone dished up, we went around the table and each person had to say one thing they were thankful for for each kernel they had. After dinner, we played a game. Each family had to bring with them five questions about themselves. We split into teams and answered questions about each other. It was really fun.
I love Thanksgiving because it brings you back to basics. It's nice to take a moment and really appreciate everything you have, big and small. When it was Ava's turn to say what she was thankful for, she said her mommy and daddy (no, we didn't coach her!)
